Re: Lumi Neon Museum Kansas City
Jimmy and Mary's was originally on the corner where they are taking down the sign. Davey's was to the south and there was an interior door connecting the two. When J & M's closed, Daveys expanded into that space. This is making me think of the turkey tetrazzini at Jimmy and Mary's. It was heaven...

Got to have some skilled carpenters to do that work even if modern technology makes it easier to duplicate the gingerbread. Too bad the house is in an isolated sketchy Appalachia neighborhood.

Re: Downtown KCK
Most of the housing stock on Strawberry Hill is very small and does not have off street parking. There are some larger houses between 6th and 7th which is now considered part of SH but was formerly Splitlog Hill. The large homes were built by Wyandotte indians who became prosperous from sale of lands.

Delta Quad Holdings that has owned the bldng since 2014 being sued by a Denver company. The city special use permit needed to obtain building permit for hotel will expire in 3 months. Look for nothing to happen here until the building changes hands.

Going to take a lot of money. Most alleys are over a century old and no one knows how many miles of alleys there are. City at present is even unable to replace curbs and sidewalks at an acceptable rate

Thanks for the additional research. Love the photo with the hazy proto skyline in the distance dominated by the old Board of Trade tower and the dome of the federal court house(wish we still had both).

Belvidere Hollow--a lost neighborhood
KC Star has article about a now vanished neighborhood that was generally in the vicinity of the now gone Chouteau Courts housing project and the I-29/35 freeway. Predominantly black, mostly substandard building. Just hard to imagine now a seamless city from the River Market through Columbus Park int...

I can see that. Maybe if it had some pastel color it would be sorta budget neo Miami Beach.
Why did they have to make the facade design asymetrical though?

Calling arranging aluminum panels vertically "art deco design" is quite a stretch. At the expense of losing a window on each floor.

I learned to swim at that Y. Still can smell the chlorine in my olfactory memories. Glad they saved some of the tile work from the pool.

Is 31st the only major intersection where both sides of track are complete? It is nice knowing at least one intersection will not be open one day, closed the next.

Bi-state on top of Baby Doe's. If they can put high end residential on top of mines at Briarcliff, they can sink piers below the mines to anchor a ball park.
