Re: Kanza City
I'm sure you're just kidding, but you still have to re-write every contract, re-paint every police car, re-letter every road sign, re-badge every building, re-print every business card, and so on, ad infinitum. You have to have a really good business reason to do that to justify to taxpayers when you're simultaneously raising water rates to pay for a $2B sewer overhaul and giant sinkholes are opening downtown.pash wrote:But it's not really even a name change. It's just a change in spelling. You say it the same, it has the same origin, etc.
Re: Kanza City
I don't embrace that view. Wouldn't an ordinance stating "all prior references to Kansas City, Missouri will now be replaced with Kanza City, Missouri and all other terms, conditions, rights and regulations shall remain the same." Then it's mostly a couple of keys on a computer keypad for most other changes, and most would happen during the time of natural attrition for ephemeral items.heatherkay wrote:I'm sure you're just kidding, but you still have to re-write every contract, re-paint every police car, re-letter every road sign, re-badge every building, re-print every business card, and so on, ad infinitum. I really ask that everyone who pauses to read this thread, try to avoid the Kansas City kneejerk "We can't do that here, because...." and take this apart from your informed perspective, while giving some consideration to the potential for benefit.
All opinions appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Kanza City
Ok, then I guess I just don't understand the point of renaming the city to something that is almost, but not quite, the same, and that highlights a difference that will be totally incomprehensible to 99.9% of people living outside KC. If the city is going to go to the trouble of renaming itself, why not really change it to something like Westport or Port Fonda or one of the other historical names for significant parts of the city?
Re: Kanza City
As a transplant, I appreciate the historical aspect of "Kansas City". Doesn't really matter which state THEY think we're in, THEY don't care really. The people I want to care (people like me) have a sense of history, geography and culture and are generally impressed when KC's accomplishments, features or history are related to them.
The reputation of a city changes all the time. NYC was a dump for a period. We were Paris of the Plains, we may be again. But not because we changed our name.
Would of been great if they had named us Kanza City, but they didn't.

What potential benefits come with a name change? And when I say benefits it means benefits of substance.loftguy wrote: while giving some consideration to the potential for benefit.

Kansas City has an identity as "Kansas City" and a name change does away with that identity.
Re: Kanza City

We should change it to Google.
Oh... I guess we don't need to.

Yawn. To be more boring, you'd have to name it Columbus or Columbia.earthling wrote:Rename to Westport, MO.

No. In point of fact, I did not invent the runza.
Moreover, it is called a "beirock" where I'm from. Uncertain what that has to do with how boring a name 'Westport' would be, but, you know...internet.
