Snow & Co leaving Crossroads for Westport
http://www.kansascity.com/news/business ... 08407.html
“The Crossroads is having an identity crisis right now. It’s not sure what it’s going to be,” said Jerry Nevins, a partner in Snow & Co. with Andy Talbert and Lauren Cloud. “But Westport and the developers over there definitely have a vision and have been revitalizing the area to compete with Power & Light and welcome concepts such as ours, a lot of very unique Kansas City concepts — Ça Va, Julep, the Doughnut Lounge, Beer Kitchen. And now concepts like HopCat coming in.”
HopCat craft beer bar and restaurant is opening at 401 Westport Road later this year.
Snow & Co. plans to close at its current location at 1815 Wyandotte St. in late September and reopen in Westport in early October.
“We may come back to the Crossroads someday if they figure out they want to be an entertainment district,” Nevins said.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
If they plan to open by Oct specifically they probably have a new Westport location picked out. Did I miss it in the article? Would like to see them in E Westport to build up that momentum. Otherwise what is open space nearby, old Thai Place? Kinda big. The rest of old Beaumont space maybe? - though owned by Char Bar.

Old union space.
Re: Misc Crossroads News
Its in the article. 421 Westport Rd where the Union used to be.
I am more interested in their assessment of the crossroads having an identity crisis. It looks to me like they thought Wyandotte street was/is prime to become a destination entertainment street, but it is being held up. Thats a shame because that could be one of the best streets in our city if it was lined with restaurants and entertainment options.

I haven't been to Snow and Co. in about 2 years. I'm surprised they are still open, the concept is somewhat cool but I never really liked any of the frozen drinks they made and thought they were kind of pricey. Wonder how the one in Gladstone is doing.

I was thinking the same thing. What happened to, uhhh... what are those things called?pash wrote:It's disturbing that people on both sides of the debate about the "identity" of the Crossroads seem to think that bars and restaurants belong in "entertainment districts".

Re: Misc Crossroads News
It's up to Xroads residents/biz to decide what it wants to be but Williamsburgh in Brooklyn would be a good model. It's both an arts district and neighborhood. Main St could become something like Bedford Ave or maybe Walnut more conducive to Bedford and Main a bit more mainstream. They badly need a stretch that is contiguously ped friendly whether neighborhoody or more than that, everything is too scattered.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
I think bars and restaurants generally belong near or in all neighborhoods in the city.
The difference is how loud you accept it to be depends on the location.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
not just *a* bar, but dozens of them without much else to balance things out (like residents or other retail). the disagreement was never about restaurants.pash wrote:It's disturbing that people on both sides of the debate about the "identity" of the Crossroads seem to think that bars and restaurants belong in "entertainment districts".
i'm not sure it's an "identity crisis" when the only debate is about the prevalence of tavern/package liquor licenses without a CID or curfew protection.

CID doesn't do squat for 3am bar problems.DaveKCMO wrote:not just *a* bar, but dozens of them without much else to balance things out (like residents or other retail). the disagreement was never about restaurants.pash wrote:It's disturbing that people on both sides of the debate about the "identity" of the Crossroads seem to think that bars and restaurants belong in "entertainment districts".

So was Snow driven out by the direction they saw Crossroads going? Will they transfer their license to another bar?

I also noticed work has FINALLY begun at the Hemingway Building (19th and Baltimore). There were a bunch of guys on the roof, removing tile I believe.
