Date Night Restaurant Ideas
Looking for a few new restaurants for a weekend night out, someplace you can be semi- dressed up. Any hidden gems? DT to Plaza preferable.

No cuisine preference. We normally go to The Reiger or Extra Virgin or Julian. Need to switch it up.

Re: Date Night Restaurant Ideas
There's almost no hidden gem left in those areas, especially if you want to dress nice. The good places are all well known or the good new places are more informal, or maybe it's that I tend to hit informal places more.
These are my recommendations
Downtown
Granauder. I would have liked more selection but what they had was tasty
Lidia's. Went for valentine's day 2011?
Brookside
Julian- get a reservation, it's hard to get in but I was impressed.
Plaza
McCormicks
Cheesecake Factory
Bo Ling's. It's a nicer one than the River Market location for dinner
Capital Grill (went twice for a former job group party, high quality food)

It's not a special occasion.
Re: Date Night Restaurant Ideas
webster house isn't a hidden gem, but it's often overlooked as a great restaurant by those not attending kauffman center events. new chef now, too.beautyfromashes wrote:Looking for a few new restaurants for a weekend night out, someplace you can be semi- dressed up. also: novel. again, not overlooked but not as high traffic as the others you mention. needs a reservation.

Those are all good suggestions. We went to Republica on the Plaza and were a bit underwhelmed. Hit the Reiger after for drinks and dessert. Great atmosphere, as always but they need to work on their dessert menu. Will try Voltaire and Jjs. I always assumed Webster House was a bit antiquey. Wrong?

My wife and I always try to celebrate our anniversary up in KC around Christmas and the ideas posted here have been really helpful. Never have even thought about Webster House.

I approve

reserve a table in the bar area. it doesn't feel as antiquey as the main dining room. great views of the kauffman at night.beautyfromashes wrote:Those are all good suggestions. Pot PIe is my go-to date place. Westport Cafe & Bar and Farmhosue are both good too.

Re: Date Night Restaurant Ideas
We ended up here on our anniversary. Great choice. It's a really quaint place with excellent food. I doubt if there were even 15 tables in the entire place (we didn't go upstairs). My wife had scallops, my son salmon and I had the pork chop. The pork chop was great but it was almost too much and the pork belly ragut a bit spicier than I had anticipated. Appetizer and desserts were great too. The only downside was I thought the draft beer list was a little limited and quirky. I also loved the area in general - not a place I've spent a lot of time but it seems very gentrified and almost getting trendy.KCDowntown wrote:My wife and I recently had a great meal at Novel.
