Topeka to lose skyline building

Post by missingkc »

The 13 (or so) story Docking government building bill be demolished.
The state is moving offices for the revenue agency and the Department for Children and Families to other buildings next year.

It plans to demolish the building because officials believe renovations of the 1950s-era high-rise would be too expensive.

I don't think anyone who works in that building will be sorry. My sister and brother-in-law work there. They found bedbugs on the floor below them this week. It is always too cold or too hot. Something is always broken.

Reminder:

The statement "Renovation would be too expensive" should always set off alarm bells and cause question. Period.

Agreed. How many decades will it take Topeka to put up a n/c building of 13 stories or more downtown? If ever again?
