OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
Here is a great article that touches base on some of KC's history relating to what's been talked about here:

That article is part of a series, which can be found here:

I love some of our iconic "ag" pieces...like the hereford, the American Royal bulls, etc...I just think the larger than life people at the end of the bar district are stupid...I don't care if they had cowboy hats or were dressed like a typical Jones pool patron or looked like mobsters....it just doesn't make any sense.

that you're talking about it means they worked.
they're something to get people talking. and that's a good thing for downtown

Pretty cool. No one would have predicted this ten years ago.“The World Cup is a about a month event, but the three days the that USA plays, I tell vendors, staff, customers, ‘Hey, it’s going to be a Big 12 Tournament atmosphere down here (at Power & Light).”
Kyle Witherspoon, general manager at Johnny’s Tavern on Grand Blvd, Kansas City Star
GH: The P&L is expecting 12,000 thirsty folks to roll into downtown on Monday, just about the time all those office building empty at 5:00 PM. I am old. I will not be there. I wish I was young. I would be there with a very large smile on my face.

It was a complete shocker to me in 2010....maybe more fun than Big 12 with everybody cheering for the same thing.

It was pretty cool to watch the P&L reaction shots on national TV while hanging with the American Outlaws in Johnny's. For some reason, Pedro Gomez of ESPN was there. Also, Johnny's is like 3 seconds ahead of the main thoroughfare.

The plumbing under the P&L District seems to be in very bad shape. It's been leaking into the garage below every time I park there and hasn't been fixed in the last several months. I'm not sure how the city hasn't gotten involved since it a major tourist location and extremely unsanitary.

doesn't the city own the site and the garages?beautyfromashes wrote:The plumbing under the P&L District seems to be in very bad shape. I know the city owns the garage, but doesn't Corish own P&L. I'm not sure who would be responsible. The plumbing for P&L seems like it should be Cordish.DaveKCMO wrote:doesn't the city own the site and the garages?beautyfromashes wrote:The plumbing under the P&L District seems to be in very bad shape. Does it matter who owns what? I'd guess a public health issue like this would involve the city regardless of ownership.beautyfromashes wrote:I know the city owns the garage, but doesn't Corish own P&L. Per Joyce Smith, MeMa's is expanding by moving into the yogurt store. The owner indicated she needed more dine in seating. Nice to see at least one local, independent tenant making out in the district.

this is pretty impressive....I would have bet this headline would have been the opposite.LenexatoKCMO wrote:Per Joyce Smith, MeMa's is expanding by moving into the yogurt store. One local, independent though? Zafar? BRGR? Polished Edge? Envolve? Pedicure place? Latteland? Cosentinos? Balsanos? Lesser extent 801? Bristol? Drunken Fish? Kill Devil?

Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut
Heard from someone who had a special event planned at zbowl that zbowl contacted them to cancel their party because they are closing?
Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut
I actually hope that is not the case. I like that place, though I've only been twice. It has almost no attitude after the switch from Lucky Strike.KCPowercat wrote:Heard from someone who had a special event planned at zbowl that zbowl contacted them to cancel their party because they are closing?

Just realized I posted in wrong thread. Sorry
