From this evening:
Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut - One Light
it looks like they are starting to work on closing the bottom floors?
Have any idea if they will start finishing the exterior while building up?
I ask because my move in date is next december, and at the rate they are going, they won't be finished building up until atleast summer next year.

Think assembly line. Teams for each step follow the one before upwards. The lower floors could be on paint when the top floors are just getting exterior wallsULCajun wrote:Have any idea if they will start finishing the exterior while building up?

Is the garage next to it designed in a way to allow adding more levels?
Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut - One Light
I noticed over the weekend that a street tree has been removed in front of the new One Light office. Honestly, as much as I love street trees, I wish they'd just take all of them out on that block. The only place on the entire block that feels wide enough for comfortable pedestrian movement is right where the tree was removed.

the leasing office facing main street got nice new facade over the weekend:

I tend to agree with this. Streetscape is great but around this area, there isn't enough sidewalk.smh wrote:I noticed over the weekend that a street tree has been removed in front of the new One Light office. Streetcar I believe prohibits bumpouts on this particular block.pash wrote:Bump outs!

Yep. Considering how new it all is, it's amazing it wasn't done better.pash wrote:Yes, I think you're right. There's not a parking lane there right now anyway, I don't think, though there might be one on the other side of the street.
On all of these streets in the P&L with parking on only one side, they should have narrowed the sidewalks a bit on the parking side and put the trees in bump-outs, then widened the sidewalks by a corresponding amount on the opposite side of the street to make more room for landscaping. So many of those sidewalks are ridiculously narrow for the trees and planters they have on them.

OneLight leasing center is now operational with a model apartment on street level next to the Walnut garage entry.

This building seems short for 25 floors. Wish it were about 150-200 ft taller. It was originally supposed to be a 35 story building. Nice to see it finally coming out of the ground though.
Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut - One Light
I believe at one time a hotel was going to be included with this building. That could be the reason why there is a difference in the number of floors.GRID wrote:This building seems short for 25 floors. Wish it were about 150-200 ft taller. Demand soars for One Light; can Two Light be far behind?
http://tinyurl.com/mtfr6q9More than 1,000 people are looking to get a spot in One Light.
On Thursday, Nick Benjamin, executive director of the Kansas City Power & Light District, told the Kansas City Business Journal that more than 1,000 people are on the waiting list for the under-construction 25-story, $79 million apartment building at 13th and Walnut streets in Downtown. Benjamin said deposits have been placed on all but two of the 24 penthouse units. He declined to say who has reserved a spot in the penthouse. In total, One Light will offer 315 units.

Maybe this will encourage other hirise developers to step up to the plate sooner than later. This might draw attention to outside developers looking for markets with demand and willing to pay that much.
If Cordish does trigger another tower, I hope it looks nothing like the first. Not a fan of matching towers, sometimes it can look like 'the projects' or distracting to skyline view if anything.
