Anyone ever wonder what they are going to do with the large corner space at 14th & Grand that has sat empty? I figured once Two Light is up, this space should be a hot commodity.

I'll probably be blasted out of here for mentioning it, but that space would be great for a Hard Rock Cafe.

Something in the category of a T-Rex cafe, Fritz's or such would fit in well. Add a family friendly restaurant to go with all the family events downtown that's not in Crown Center

If we are going to have a Hard Rock Cafe, that's the place to do it. PnL is our touristy fru fru district.

Does Hard Rock Cafe have any appeal any more? I used to try the different ones out in various European cities when I lived there because you could get a decent burger and it made our kids happy but back home they are incredibly overpriced and the food isn't that good. That said, its probably unique enough to KC folk to draw people in from the burbs.

If St Louis can have a Hard Rock Café why can't KC? Even Louisville and Memphis have one. Is KC that far behind?

Maybe The Isle of Capri can be renamed Hard Rock Casino and have it build the long promised hotel at that location.

It means that KC is tasteful enough not to seek manufactured faux culture. If it comes then whatever, but not exactly something to seek out. Especially as old hat as it is even to those who go for that. /unabashed_snootiness

If wanting a chain venue, go for House of Blues - at least they have a decent booking agency (even though rarely blues).

One of the reasons KC does not have a Hard Rock Cafe, maybe the primary reason, is because during the development of the P&L District, HRC and Cordish had a big falling out. Most Cordish developments had HRC's up until that point. But with DT becoming more and more the happening place in KC, HRC may show up independently of Cordish.

Dumb tourist and frat "Bras" in mullets and jorts. Plenty of those around. Got to have some place to go after the Jones Pool.

I thought they were going to take down that mural and preserve it elsewhere?

I believe they hired the original painter to recreate it on the building.

The mural is applied directly to the concrete rear wall of the building. There is now way to remove it.

Murals aren't meant to last, especially this one, which was created as a placeholder and nothing else. It's a fundamental source of their charm as a medium, in my opinion. I certainly hope it doesn't get recreated wholesale.

Yeah, it always came across to me as temporary to fill in a blank wall, until something developed.

I'm looking forward to this building gaining some height. Once it gets up to about 4 floors it will be very visible from the 16th St train stop
