Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
does anyone have a pic of what the streetcar will look like also the union station stop is it true that they will have a stairway to board decending from the skywalk over pershing
Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
no stairway from the link (too expensive, and would require an elevator for ADA). the stop was moved to the west curb anyway due to adjacent property owner feedback. a HAWK signal will be installed for pedestrians to cross main mid-block under the link.carnellmanning74 wrote:does anyone have a pic of what the streetcar will look like also the union station stop is it true that they will have a stairway to board decending from the skywalk over pershing

what an odd exercise in photoshoping people. I especially like the orange girl, and it's all I could think of when you said the colors and patterns weren't final.DaveKCMO wrote:no stairway from the link (too expensive, and would require an elevator for ADA). the stop was moved to the west curb anyway due to adjacent property owner feedback. a HAWK signal will be installed for pedestrians to cross main mid-block under the link.carnellmanning74 wrote:does anyone have a pic of what the streetcar will look like also the union station stop is it true that they will have a stairway to board decending from the skywalk over pershing

I think they're more talking about how badly they did it.loftguy wrote:What do you mean, odd?studentper wrote:

look at the shadows. line up Main in your mind as as a line through 6:00 and 12:00 on a clock. the train's shadows match the buildings close enough one can't tell, maybe halfway between 9:00 and 10:00 (making this early afternoon). the people's shadows are closer to halfway between 11:00 and 12:00 (making this around noon).
if they had got more of these fine details correct it would look closer to real. they added a second sun to the sky and we subconsciously notice that kind of thing because it's about perspective in the scene. we expect all the lines to match to the same vanishing point and the sun is one for shadows
effectively the people are there 3 hours earlier in the day than the trains are and that's weird. they took the effort to make the perspective work for the train and then stopped bothering

A fair amount of P&L denizens actually cast no shadow.flyingember wrote:I think they're more talking about how badly they did it.loftguy wrote:What do you mean, odd?studentper wrote:

I truly think that 'Singleton Yard' is great, but I'm calling this the 'Kite Yard' and hope it catches....

The final selection of Herzog Transit as the operator requires approval by Kansas City. If approved, the operations committee will negotiate a contract, and once a notice to proceed is given, Herzog Transit will begin consulting on remaining construction activities and developing standard operating procedures. Later, it will hire streetcar operators, assist with vehicle delivery and testing, and fulfill required federal and state safety certifications, a release from the city said. The contract is expected to last five years.

groundbreaking for the maintenance facility will occur in june. they'll also be storing rail nearby for when the yard installation begins (arrives by truck starting today).DaveKCMO wrote:whiting-turner construction has posted information on the maintenance facility they will be constructing:

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Why is there a stop at 7th and Main? Anticipated development?
Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
yes. it will not have a shelters until something happens there, but there will still be platforms and real-time arrival signs. thankfully -- or maybe unfortunately? -- most of the surrounding parcels are owned by commerce bank.beautyfromashes wrote:Why is there a stop at 7th and Main? Next time I see a Kemper in the elevator I'll try to ask what it would take to kill the parking lots. Besides a new Kauffman.DaveKCMO wrote:yes. it will not have a shelters until something happens there, but there will still be platforms and real-time arrival signs. thankfully -- or maybe unfortunately? -- most of the surrounding parcels are owned by commerce bank.beautyfromashes wrote:Why is there a stop at 7th and Main?
