Upscale department store downtown? That already exists and it's expanding.
Halls and Crown Center. It's been there for years.

Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut
I'm aware of Halls in Crown Center..haha
I was referring to something else in the CBD as well by P&L....hence the pie in the sky comment...should've been more clear...A Macy's type of store would probably be make more sense...

Benjamin said that construction will start in the first quarter of 2014 and that the building will be finished 18 months later. Cordish also plans to build three more similar buildings in the coming years if One Light is successful.

Not to complain about a new apartment tower in the loop, but-
Architecture: Dallas
Engineering: Dallas, St. Louis, Kansas City, Overland Park, Tromball, Texas
Design Services: Phoenix, New York, Playa del Rey, California

The One Light building doesn't show up on Humphrey's & Partners website when filtering buildings by state....that is, unless you filter using the state of Kansas.

I'm not as familiar with private skyscraper development, but if they're just now approving engineering contracts, isn't a 1Q groundbreaking ambitious?

this reads to me like it's the permit to create the foundation under the basement.KCDowntown wrote:Finally, it begins...

I will be excited once they stop using that parking lot. It's still in full use, which makes me wonder really how quickly they will be getting started on this. They sure are getting as much money as possible out of that parking lot before the work starts.
Hopefully work starts tomorrow.

Still nothing happening. Still being used as a parking lot.
This project is never going to get started.

Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut
FWIW....Heard Cordish was re-bidding the project due to higher than anticipated constructions costs.

Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut
Doesn't mean it's dead or delayed....just heard they were rebidding to get better costs. Probably weren't happy with initial numbers.

I have a friend that works in the construction industry and he basically stated that there is no way Cordish can get the bids they want. At least on what he was working on.
