Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
It closed. Shitty management. KC has much better local places for them to exist.
Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Was on the Plaza over lunch and noticed that CPK was gone.

They have been gone for quite awhile now...kcjak wrote:Was on the Plaza over lunch and noticed that CPK was gone.

Now if only Noodles & Co would disappear quietly...geeman68 wrote:They have been gone for quite awhile now...kcjak wrote:Was on the Plaza over lunch and noticed that CPK was gone.

that place is terrible. I'd rather have McDonalds.kcjak wrote:Now if only Noodles & Co would disappear quietly...geeman68 wrote:They have been gone for quite awhile now...kcjak wrote:Was on the Plaza over lunch and noticed that CPK was gone.

Chipotle would kill in that location.
Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Not that it wouldn't kill, but isn't there one in South Plaza on Main already? Seems a bit close for another.beautyfromashes wrote:Chipotle would kill in that location.

We need more chipotles everywhere. Lines too long. Had to stop going to Plaza location. Not that it wouldn't kill, but isn't there one in South Plaza on Main already? Seems a bit close for another
And no one likes or patronizes the alternatives (Freebirds etc.)
But yes to your point I would think that is realistically far too close for another location.

I miss Mesa Wraps in Westport. Chipotle is OK but sanitized for gringos.
Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
the only time i ever went to Mesa Wraps, i had a giant piece of GRAVEL in my burrito. nearly cracked my tooth. i went up to the counter and showed the stoner clerk, and he said, "whoa! yeah sometimes those are in with the beans." he gave me a cookie for my trouble.
Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
as for Chipotle being "gringo," obviously Chipotle is probably in the Stuff White People Like Hall of Fame, but for such a mass-market product I think they do a great job. i would actually credit chipotle with whetting gringos appetites for more "authentic" options (by actually using cilantro, for example) and cause people to seek out street tacos or whatever.
also, "sanitized" as it is, the meat at Chipotle is better than most mom and pop taco shops. if you put chipotle's barbacoa or chicken in some food blogger's tacos at Bonito Michoacan he would probably cream his shorts.
the salsas, however, are clearly lacking compared to your KCK type joint.

Went to the soft opening at Republica last night. It's another Bread and Butter Concept place focusing on tapas. Hopefully it will do well. It's not going to be my place, a little too loud for me but I can seeing it being very popular. The price points seem good and the appetizers we had were tasty. I'll hit it for lunch in a couple of weeks and see how they are doing.
Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Corner Bakery possibly taking over the CPK spot and Tesla possibly taking the Pottery Barn for Kids spot.
I continue to be bored with what Highwoods is doing with the Plaza...although I wouldn't mind a Corner Bakery locating anywhere in the CBD if it had decent hours.

Bored with what they're doing? You're supposed to be bored. Exciting is a sign there's trouble in retail.
That there's nothing beyond the norm happening means everything is going well. They have a setup that just works.
The day it gets exciting with the retail setup is the day everyone should get worried. Because if what's arguably the top shopping center in the region has to add excitement then we have huge problems in the urban core.

I guess our ideas of boring and exciting differ. The chains that Highwoods have been adding are boring to me. Filling the CPK spot with Corner Bakery is essentially non-news to me. I want to be excited with the announcements that the Plaza makes.flyingember wrote:Bored with what they're doing? You're supposed to be bored. Exciting is a sign there's trouble in retail.

I don't expect every corner of the shopping center to be bursting with local or even unique stores, but if the Plaza is truly the top shopping center in the region, I think it is a little disturbing that southern JC shopping centers are the ones nabbing first-in-the-region chain stores like REI, Container Store, Dean & Deluca, and LL Bean.
Tesla is at least a little interesting, although I'm not sure how well it will do there.

Location is a non-issue for Tesla.
