The only place that is "too big" in my opinion is Raglan Road. Admittedly, I've only spent real time in Johnny's, Flying Saucer, McF's, GB, and occasionally MM.

Raglan, however, would be perfect for a split b/c of the 2 seperate bars.

Anyway, hope the new place succeeds. Food needs to be better, less expensive. I'm curious, is Raglan taking all of their fixtures with them or will KCHopps be purchasing a lot of that stuff? Though Raglan failed at various things, they knocked it out of the park in terms of design. In fact, that hughe overhead was probably their downfall.

I'm guessing its all staying which allows kc hops to open in a month.

Agree on better food at a better price. I love a good Irish bar and I think the kc hops guys can make it work.

The food at O'dowd's is fairly good. I'm optimistic.

The Lucky Strike organization is getting out of KC and a local is taking over the bowling alley calling it Z Strike.

I much prefer local owners but this looks like a disaster. Successful chain pulling out, new to the industry local owner....hoping for the best but doesn't sound like the best situation.

I think you are right. This could be the beginning of a downward spiral for that place. Why is lucky strike pulling out of kc? They are a well known name in urban entertainment districts.

I see they pulled out of Louisville as well. Maybe cordish pissed them off.

Could be. No word from them. Maybe they are overextended.

They're not local and they are in the bowling biz.

Wow I completely misread that story. New concept equated to new in the business I guess.

I forsee an empty bowling alley in another year.
Either that or when this flops (yes it will) they will gut the place and make it something else.

Anyone have any insights as to how Lucky was doing here? Maybe the closing has not much to do with KC. It would seem that if the Lucky schtick worked at P&L, most any bowling model could work. I think it's nice to have, even though I've only been twice. I know some folks who do regular marketing/schmoozing there.

Who knows if it will flop. Maybe it will thrive? No idea how lucky strike did but it seemed to keep people coming back.

Don't bowling alleys live and breath based on bowling leagues that use the facility regularly, and not just from the weekend party crowds?

It would be kind of cool if they offered non-competitive bowling leagues during the week, this would appeal to a lot of the people that live in the area. SOmething that would appeal to the hipster kickball crowds.

Typically yes, but Lucky Strike seemed more like a bar that happened to have a bowling alley than vice versa.

I think it targets bowling as a social event

Lucky Strike was an interesting place. I'm guessing they just chose not to renew their lease. Cordish's leases were based on high estimated traffic and having a sports team.

I'd prefer the whole bowling lounge go away.

I could see all the non-Cordish bars (flying saucer, GB, ?) leaving the area once leases run up.
